IAFA Annual Teaching & Learning Day – 20th January 2023
The Annual IAFA Teaching & Learning Day will take place virtually on Friday 20th January 2023. This event is kindly supported by Chartered Accountants Ireland and is free to attend.
Keynote Speaker: Professor Garry D. Carnegie
Title of Session: “Redefining accounting for tomorrow”
IAFA is delighted to announce Professor Garry D. Carnegie as the keynote speaker at the IAFA Teaching & Learning Day 2023. Garry is an Emeritus Professor of RMIT University and during 2010 to 2017, he was Professor of Accounting and Head, RMIT School of Accounting (https://www.rmit.edu.au/contact/staff-contacts/academic-staff/c/carnegie-professor-garry). His research interests are in accounting, accountability and governance in both contemporary and historical contexts. His publications appear in books and a wide array of international journals on accounting and in other fields. An Associate Editor of Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, having served as an Editorial Board member since 1993, he was Editor/Joint Editor of Accounting History for a continuous period of 25 years from 1995 to 2019 and Consulting Editor in 2020.
In 2021, Garry published a paper in Australian Accounting Review which he co-authored with Professor Lee Parker and Dr Eva Tashuridu. The paper title is “It’s 2020: What is accounting today?”. In his session at the IAFA Teaching & Learning Day Garry will briefly present the context and findings of the paper, before addressing what “redefining accounting for tomorrow” means for the future of teaching and learning in accounting & finance to ensure graduates are prepared for the future.
Registration for the event will close at 5pm on 18th January 2023 after which, registered attendees will receive the information required to access the online event.
The IAFA council is delighted to announce that the 35th IAFA Annual Conference and Doctoral Colloquium will be hosted by NUI Galway from Wednesday 7th – Friday 9th June 2023. More information will be provided over the coming months.
