The annual IAFA Teaching & Learning Day will take place online on Thursday 8th January 2026 from 9am–12:30pm. The event is kindly supported by Chartered Accountants Ireland and is free to attend.
The theme of this year’s event is Enabling Engagement in Accounting & Finance Education. We are delighted to confirm our keynote speaker Dr Nicola Beatson (University of Otago, New Zealand), who will deliver a talk entitled “Engagement Goes Both Ways: Students and Staff in the Learning Loop”. In the presentation, Nicola will share her research informed insights on student and staff engagement within accounting education, highlighting actionable insights for faculty. Through her research, Nicola has examined student engagement beyond cognitive achievement and the pivotal non-cognitive drivers that foster meaningful connections between learners and educators. She will share findings from key studies that reveal how both students and staff can actively contribute to a vibrant educational environment, discussing strategies that faculty can adopt to enhance motivation, participation, and overall success in the classroom. Nicola will also focus on innovative approaches to strengthening engagement and collaboration. Attendees will gain practical ideas and thoughtful reflections on building a more engaging and supportive academic community, informed by both the milestones and challenges encountered along her research journey.
We also look forward to the participation of a representative from Chartered Accountants Ireland who will update us on the Institute’s education philosophy and evolving programme.
As per recent years, we are also pleased to announce a Call for Submissions to the IAFA Education Series. The Series plays an important part in our Teaching & Learning Day, and in showcasing innovation and emerging practice in our community. The Call for Submissions can be found below.
Registration for the Teaching & Learning Day will open in late-November – but in the meantime, please add the date to your diary!
We look forward to your participation.
